US Patent No. 12,097,276 B2 (Eun Mi Kim, Kyeonghwan Hwang, Dong Hyun Kim, Byung-Gee Kim, Jinkyung Choi); Amorepacific Corporation and Seoul National University R&DB Foundation have been awarded a US patent for brightening the skin by inhibiting melanin production.
